On September 11, 2026, Halloween enthusiasts across the nation will be able to get their early scare fix, as America's best haunted attractions kick off the season with their inaugural "First Fright" events. This marks the start of a month-long spectacle that promises to thrill and terrify thrill-seekers before the official Halloween festivities begin.

America Haunts, the country's premier association for haunted attractions, announced the opening dates for 18 of its member attractions, spanning from September 11 to October 2. These haunted venues, known for their innovative and immersive experiences, are geared towards fans who wish to kick off their Halloween celebrations early.

"This is the perfect time to get a taste of what's to come in October," said Amber Arnett Bequeaith, spokesperson for America Haunts. "First Fright is about being among the first to experience the latest haunted attractions and the excitement of opening night."

Among the first to open is Niles Scream Park in Niles, Michigan, which will run from September 11 to November 7. The Dent Schoolhouse in Cincinnati, Ohio, also opens its doors on the same day, continuing through November 13. These early openings provide haunt enthusiasts with a head start on their October adventures.

The second wave of haunted attractions kicks off on September 18 and 19. Notable venues include Netherworld Haunted House in the Atlanta metro area, Erebus Haunted Attraction in Detroit, and The Dead End Hayride in the Minneapolis metro. These locations will operate until November 7, providing ample time for visitors to explore and experience the seasonal frights.

The biggest wave of openings comes on September 25 and 26. Attractions like The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park in San Diego, Talon Falls Screampark in Kentucky and Illinois, and The 13th Gate in Baton Rouge will open their doors for the first time this season. These attractions, known for their creative and elaborate setups, are expected to draw large crowds looking to get a jump on the Halloween season.

As Halloween approaches, Kansas City will join the fray with its Beast and Edge of Hell, opening on October 2. This marks the final opening for the season, bringing the total number of haunted attractions to 18.
