Bonfire in the Bottoms transforms Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms into a s'more and shopping paradise

As autumn winds swept through Kansas City, the Historic West Bottoms district transformed into a festive haven for shoppers and s'more enthusiasts. From September 4 to 6, the area hosted its annual Bonfire in the Bottoms event, turning the monthly First Friday Weekend into a fireside gathering filled with shopping, entertainment, and seasonal treats.

Amidst the historic 13-block district, visitors wandered through vintage-filled warehouses, where one-of-a-kind furniture and decor awaited discovery. The Sidewalk Sale offered an eclectic mix of treasures, drawing shoppers from far and wide. As the sun set, the air grew cooler, and the sound of live music filled the streets, mingling with the crackle of fire pits that invited guests to gather and roast marshmallows.

"Bonfire in the Bottoms is when the West Bottoms truly comes alive in the fall," Amber Arnett-Bequeaith, spokesperson for the West Bottoms Historic Entertainment District, remarked. "It's a perfect blend of shopping, neighborhood gathering, and a preview of the Halloween season ahead."

Visitors could savor fall-inspired cocktails and mocktails at the Full Moon Street Bar, while food trucks and local favorites kept the appetite for adventure going. Haunt characters, offering fun photo ops and adding to the festive atmosphere, made their debut, providing a sneak peek of the upcoming Halloween attractions.

The event featured a range of activities, including lawn games and fireside fun, allowing families and friends to relax and enjoy the changing season. Shoppers could indulge in a fall treasure hunt, digging through vintage furniture, architectural pieces, and retro clothing, all with a history and patina that big-box stores couldn't match.

"Come for the treasures. Stay for the s'mores," Arnett-Bequeaith encouraged, hinting at the district's upcoming events, including Boo in the Bottoms First Friday Weekend in October and the Blessings in the Bottoms and Bows in the Bottoms events in November and December.

The Historic West Bottoms Entertainment District, located just off the 12th Street Bridge, boasts a rich history dating back over a century. The multi-story buildings, repurposed into the largest indoor vintage entertainment district, form a vibrant tapestry of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Shoppers and interior decorators alike find unique and stylish items with a one-of-a-kind history, making the West Bottoms a must-visit destination for those seeking distinctive décor and gift options.
